A Hollywood costume designer who worked with actor Fred Savage on the short-lived Fox TV series The Grinder has sued the star for harassment, assault, battery and gender discrimination, reports ABC7.
“He would routinely curse at me, yell at me, demean me, when all I was trying to do was my job,” YoungJoo Hwang said.
20th Century Fox is also named in the suit. The Grinder aired for one season in 2015 before being cancelled.
Savage vehemently denies the allegation, but said he supported the right of harassment victims to come forward.
“I was made aware that a woman working in the costume department of a show I was on almost three years ago has claimed that I treated her harshly on set simply because she was a woman. These accusations are completely without merit and absolutely untrue,” Savage said in a statement.
“I wholeheartedly support all people who feel they are being mistreated come forward and speak to human resources and those in charge. We have witnessed so much bravery from those speaking out recently, but I will just as boldly protect myself and my family from those seeking to tarnish my good name.”
20th Century Fox said it already investigated Hwang’s claim and said it could not substantiate them.
It said in a statement that it takes “all allegations of improper conduct very seriously,” but “”found no evidence of any wrongdoing on the part of Mr. Savage.”
But Hwang says Savage “violently struck her arm three times with his hand” , according to CNN.
Anahita Sedaghatfar of the Cochran Firm is representing Hwang and said “Savage had it out for all woman on the set.”
