Nathan Chen is the new Men’s Figure Skating World Champion.
The Olympian who placed fifth at PyeongChang after a disastrous short program attempted six quads and landed all six in Milan, although he stepped out on one of them, reported Deadline,
He entered today’s long skate in first place and all the skaters in contention fell in their long program.
Chen skated last and near flawlessly.
“I just wanted to redeem myself in the short, and try to maintain what I did in the long,” he said to the Guardian.
Vincent Chou of Palo alto, CA who entered the long in third place dropped out of a medal when he fell three times and landed in 14th place.
This was clearly Chen’s championship to win.
“I’m so happy about this, especially having not the greatest skates at the Olympics and then being able to come not long after and do what I did here,” Chen was quoted as saying by Team USA.
