Shibutanis Advance to Finals for Sullivan Award

Alex and Maia Shibutani

Maia and Alex Shibutani, still on a high from the post-Olympic glow of two bronze medals, are one of seven finalists for the Sullivan Award.

The award goes each year to the amateur athlete who best exemplifies qualities of leadership, character and sportsmanship. They are known as the Oscars of sports awards, according to the Sullivan website.

The ice dancing pair advanced from the semi-finals from a group of 28 nominees.

There are six other nominees who also advanced to the finals. They are NCAA championship wrestler Kyle Snyder, NCAA volleyball player and co-most outstanding player at the NCAA Volleyball Championship Kelly Hunter, North Carolina Tar Heel basketball star Joel Berry II, NCAA distance runner Erin Finn, NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship team member Annika Albrecht, and para equestrian Angela Peavy.

Fans can vote up to one time per day through March 29.
