A first year student at Brown University is $100,000 richer this morning after winning the Jeopardy College Championship Friday.
Dhruv Gaur is from Gaineville, Florida and is currently studying public health and economics.
He went into the Final Jeopardy round with a comfortable lead and bid only $18 to guarantee himself the championship.
His chances were greatly boosted when he found five of the possible six Daily Doubles answers during the two day competition. The Daily Double allows contestants to double their winnings by waging their entire score.
“It’s a game changer getting the Daily Double, said Gaur. “When you get them right they’re a huge point boost. Like when you’re not in the game it’ll put you right back into it.”
The champion described his personality as intense, yet he also finds time for a little fun.
Gaur helped orchestrate an unusual stunt with his fellow contestants. Each mimicked a move on the basketball court when they were introduced. A clip of the stunt went viral. You can watch it below along with other highlights.
Gaur also posted this meme of himself on his Facebook page.
Gaur told the American Bazaar he isn’t quite sure what he will do with his winnings.
“It’s kind of boring, but since I’m not entirely sure what the future holds, I’m just going to save it until I need it for grad school or to pursue an opportunity I might really want in the future,” Gaur said. “My little brother is really interested in investing, so I’ll give him some so he can give the stock market a go, and I promised my friends I’d take them out to dinner, but the vast majority is being saved for later.”
