The Chinese American Museum of Chicago has released what it calls an Interactive Chinese American Heritage Map, reports Xinhua.net.
Developed by the United Chinese Americans (UCA), the map allows web crawlers to find historical events related to Chinese Americans in the past two centuries based on key words, dates, and categories. The public can also submit relevant historical events through a form listed on UCA’s website. Submissions are vetted by UCA before being added to the map.
UCA Chairman and project lead Zhang Xiayan said they hope to preserve history and empower the next generation with their new project. He believes that a “thorough understanding of the 200-year history of Chinese Americans in the United States can lead to better proposals and blueprints for the Chinese communities in the country in the future,” reports China.org.cn. He hopes that in five to ten years, with public input, the map will be a detailed database documenting the history of Chinese Americans.
