When Indian American politician and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley visited the University of Houston last week, students broke out in protest.
The days preceding Haley’s arrival, students had expressed their grievances on social media due to her perceived anti-Palestinian views — some even petitioned to have her lecture cancelled altogether.
Within moments of Haley’s lecture, they started shouting, “Free Palestine!”. A little later, they began chanting, “Nikki, Nikki, can’t you see? You are on a killing spree!”
As incendiary and deafening as these chants were, Haley seemed unfazed by the protest.
Shortly after the students were escorted by University police, and the sounds of the chanting ceased, Haley joked, “Any more?”
Additionally, she acknowledged the students right to protest. “As disruptive as that might have been, it’s a reason to celebrate, because my husband and brother are combat veterans and fought for their right to be able to do that,” she said.
