Muslim Swimmers Told to Stay Out of Public Pool. Anti-Muslim Tirade Caught on Tape

Muslim advocates are pointing to two separate incidents as the latest examples of discrimination faced by their community.

In one occasion, a woman is seen on video berating a Muslim passenger aboard a Staten Island bus.

In the other, a pool manager asked a group of Muslim swimmers to get out of a public pool in Delaware.

MSN reports a group of kids on an outing with the head of an Arabic enrichment program were told to stay out of the water because they were wearing cotton shorts, shirts and hijabs.

“There’s nothing posted that says you can’t swim in cotton,” said Tahsiyn A Ismaa’eel to Delaware Online. “At the same time, there are other kids with cotton on.”

Ismaa’eel, who says she has taken kids to the same pool for four years without incident, promised the pool manager he would inform the children’s parents about her concerns.

A few minutes later, a police officer asked the group when they were leaving, saying others were waiting to use the pool.

The mayor’s office later called the issue of cotton a legitimate safety concern because the clothing could weigh swimmers down.

In New York, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, is accusing a bus passenger of bigotry and discrimination, reports a href=”http://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/2018/07/15/video-catches-anti-muslim-tirade-on-nyc-bus#” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>NY1.

In a video, a woman who identifies herself as Ashley is heard saying “You no citizen! You no citizen! You don’t speak English!”

She accused the Muslim passenger of blocking the bus door with her baby stroller.

“Immigration at the door! Oh wait, is that ICE [U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement]? Oh mama, they here for you,”

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority is investigating the incident.
