Dream Riders Trek Thousands of Miles for Immigration Reform

Journey 2 Justice

A group of about 20 “dream riders” are scheduled to arrive in Bakersfield, California today as part of their 37 day trek to draw attention to the need for immigration reform and a path to citizenship.

The Journey 2 Justice tour began in Seattle, Washington and will end in San Diego on September 5. That will be the one year anniversary of President Trump’s decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival program which cleared the path for citizenship for those undocumented who were brought to this country as children by their parents.

It’s not just about Latino issues, it’s also Asian American issues we need to address. There are more than Dreamers out there,” said Jung Woo Kim, 33, to the
Fresno Bee. “It can be more inclusive.”

Kim was among those who attended a church service in Fresno, CA to support the dream riders.

The tour is sponsored by the National Korean American Service and Education Consortium.

During a break at the United Methodist Church in Davis, Ca; the group shared a meal with supporters.

They also told of the struggles their parents faced for them to bring them to the United States, according to the Davis Enterprise.

The group rides six to eight hours a day and has had to so far camp 10 days when they could not find housing. They have also had to change their route due to wildfires in Oregon and California.

“This is our home,” said Kim. “my home. We have a right to enjoy it.”
