ABC has committed to a pilot for a new sitcom starring Hannah Simone, who is known for her role as Cece on the Fox sitcom New Girl, Variety reports.
The currently untitled television comedy will star Simone as a “broke, single, and nearly 30-something” woman that develops her relationship with her father after learning of her parents’ separation. In addition to her lead role, Simone will also write and executive produce the project. The show is inspired by Simone’s own nontraditional Indian family, according to Deadline.
Simone has previously worked with ABC on a pilot for the reboot of The Greatest American Hero that was later passed over despite positive reactions.
Besides her role on New Girl, Simone’s other credits include the Fox reality competition show Kicking & Screaming, the film Killing Gunther, and Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake.
Currently under a deal with ABC Studios, Alex Cuthbertson and Matt Fusfeld will also be writing and producing with Simone.
In addition to previously working with Simone on New Girl, their credits also include adult animation American Dad and even ABC’s The Mayor.
