Rep Tlaib Not Apologizing for “Impeach the Mother F*cker” Comment

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) isn’t backing down from her blunt words said during a victory party following her swearing in to the House of Representatives, reports WDIV.

“When your son looks at you and says ‘Momma, look you won. Bullies don’t win.’ And I said, ‘baby, they don’t.’ Because we’re going to go in there and impeach the motherf—er,” Tlaib said to the moveon.org crowd that erupted in cheers.

Her words have generated a vigorous debate about decorum on Capitol Hill. President Trump has called her words “disgraceful.” Democrats have also criticized her.

“I think those comments take us in the wrong direction,” said Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) to WDIV.

“Come on! I get the anger but is this helpful?” said former Obama adviser David Axelrod to The Hill.

Others, however, say it’s about time. Writing in Esquire, David Pierce wrote ” Somebody had to be the first person to say it out loud, and if Congresswoman Tlaib is the harbinger of a Democratic Party that will say what it means without being concerned with how the crumbling maniac in the White House might use it to gin up the rubes, that’s all to the good, I say.”

Pierce spoke specifically not about the “F” word, but the “I” word, impeach, which Democrats have been reluctant to embrace.

“I stand by impeaching the president of the United States,” the Muslim and Palestinian American said to WDIV. “I ran on that.”

“It’s probably exactly how my grandmother, if she was alive, would say it,” Tlaib said. “Obviously, I am a member of Congress and things that I say are elevated on a national level, and I understand that very clearly. I am very passionate, and I grew up in an incredibly beautiful, urban community — the city of Detroit — born and raised. We say colorful things in interesting ways, but I tell you, the president of the United States is my focus. The residents back home are my focus.”

Tlaib remains enthusiastic about her first days in Congress, posting this on Facebook.
