Asian Male-Black Female Love Story in Theaters in May

The Sun Is Also A Star

The first trailer has been released for a new Warner Bros-MGM film due out in theaters May 17, The Sun Is Also a Star.

In just 24 hours, the trailer has generated more than 1.6 million views on You Tube alone.

It stars Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish) as Natasha and Charles Melton (Riverdale) as Daniel, along with John Leguizamo (“John Wick: Chapter 2”).

Daniel and Natasha meet by happenstance when he saves her from being hit by a car. Natasha tells Daniel she doesn’t believe in love, so Daniel sets out to prove her wrong .

Due to circumstances with Natasha’s immigration status, Daniel will have just 24 hours to win her over.

If the trailer is any indication, the chemistry between the two is remarkable. Melton plays quite the charming leading man and Shahidi’s transformation in the film is something fans will likely enjoy.

The story is based on a best selling book of the same name by Nicola Yoon .

  1. Both Asian men and Black women get little romantic action in Hollywood outside of their own race, according to some sources I read. Romeo Must Die, The Lovebirds, and The Sun Is Also A Star are the only ones I can think of, but then realized that even in Mortal Kombat X, Takeda and Jacqui, an AM/BW relationship, took place in the story mode.
