Jeremy Lin to Sign With the Toronto Raptors

Jeremy Lin has accepted a buyout from the Atlanta Hawks and will sign with the Toronto Raptors, ESPN reports. According to his agents, Lin could sign with the Raptors as soon as the middle of this week.

Lin’s three-year $36 million contract expires this summer. His salary for the 2018-19 season ($13.8 million) makes it impossible for teams to claim him off waivers.

Lin has bounced around the league throughout his career. In his eight-plus seasons he has played for the Warriors, Knicks, Rockets, Lakers, Hornets, Nets, and Hawks. This season Lin averaged 10.7 points, 3.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds for the Hawks.

According to Forbesthe deal is beneficial for both Lin and the Raptors. Lin brings with him talent and experience. In exchange, Forbes’ sports contributor Howard Megdal says, the Raptors will give him an opportunity to play “important minutes” on a “winning team.”
