Actress, producer, and writer Mindy Kaling has signed what sources say is a competitive six-year, eight-figure deal with Warner Bros. Television, reports Deadline.

With Warner Bros., Kaling will produce new projects for broadcast, cable, and streaming platforms, including but not limited to comedy and drama. Her production company, Kaling International, will also produce an all-new series in association with Warner Bros.

The deal means she’s leaving behind Universal Television, home to The Office, where she had her breakout role as Kelly Kapoor. Kaling also created, executive produced, and starred in her comedy The Mindy Project and co-created and executive produced NBC series Champions under Uni TV.

The Emmy-nominated writer and actress is currently a hot commodity, especially after her Emma Thompson-led Sundance feature Late Night, which Amazon bought for a whopping $13 million. Amazon plans to open Late Night theatrically this summer.

Kaling ended up at Warner Bros. after a competitive bidding situation involving multiple studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sources say Kaling was nearing a deal with Disney when Amazon pitched an offer that also included a film component. Warner Bros. then upped the offer and won Kaling over.
