Sexual assault survivor and 2019 Nobel Peace Prize nominee Amanda Nguyen says she was threatened by two men on a Delta flight.
Nguyen tweeted about the incident saying “2 men threatened me to give up my assigned seating telling me ‘I will turn on the light the entire flight, make noise the entire flight. I will climb all over you’.
Nguyen who founded the civil rights nonprofit, Rise, and authored the Sexual Assault Survivors Bill of Rights said she switched seats because she felt “unsafe.”
Wrote handwritten letter to flight attendants to explain my heartbreak at how unwelcome I feel being threatened 2 leave my seat. Still in air. 4 safety I asked them to not address the men until we land. I am the only person of color in my plane section. Reminded I don’t belong.

She then wrote a letter to the flight attendants explaining her fear and concerns, as well as displeasure at the inaction of the flight attendants who did not intervene.
They would later call her to the front of the plane, asked her to point out the men and assisted her in filing a formal harassment complaint.
“I’m really glad I wrote something. Thank you to my friend who encouraged me,” tweeted Amanda. Delta later tweeted a response.
You shouldn’t be made to feel this way while traveling. I regret hearing that our crew member wasn’t attentive when you brought this to their attention. I will share details with our inflight management team for internal review of how things were handled. ^HDR
