Two people have been arrested for the murder of a newborn baby boy snatched from his mother in the Central California town of Bakersfield, reports Bakersfield.com.
Under arrest are Beant Kaur Dhillon, 43, and Jagsir Singh, 47. KBAK reports that the two are married.
The teenage mother told her school the murder took place in November and the school immediately contacted authorities, according to 23ABC.
Singh is now out on bail. The neighborhood is described as heavily Sikh.
“It just kind of shocked me,” said Gary Singh to Bakersfield.com. “This is a really nice neighborhood.”
“It’s just pretty crazy,” neighbor Rick Suarez said.
It’s not known why the couple took the baby from the teen. Police are not releasing the couple’s relationship to the victim in an effort to protect the mother’s identity.
