An unsealed search warrant affidavit reveals that a Chinese businessman wore a wiretap for authorities during his meeting with Chicago alderman Danny Solis and Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan.
The affidavit states that CS-1, which the Chicago Sun Times has identified as Y.Wong, is that businessman. Madigan is recorded pitching his law firms services to Wong and Kin Kuong Chong -who wanted to build a hotel in Chinatown. Solis reportedly promises that if Madison’s firm gets hired, the project Wong And Chong want will get the help it needs from the city.
The feds also accuse Solis of receiving free Viagra and sex services at Chinatown massage parlors from political operative Roberto Caldero while helping out Caldero’s clients.
In another article, the Sun-Times reports that last year another developer, with help from Solis, tried to push legislation through the Illinois General Assembly to try to transfer a Chinatown project from the state to the city to pave the way for the project he wanted.
The project is on a 2.7 acre parcel of property in Chinatown currently on state-owned land.
Solis has announced he will not run for reelection.
