The widow of Jeff Adachi, the San Francisco public defender who died last month from a mixture of cocaine and alcohol coupled with heart disease, is condemning the leak of a police report just hours after his death.
Mutsuko Adachi appeared before the Board of Supervisors Thursday, according to CBS5.
“It was despicable what the police department did to myself and my daughter by releasing the police report,” she said as she cupped her hands over her mouth and began to tear. “It was like less than 12 hours and they released the police report with pictures and it was all over the news. To say that it doesn’t affect the family is an understatement. It’s incredibly painful to have the police department do this to you.”

The supervisors asked a string of questions to police, questioning how something like that could have happened. Supervisor Hillary Ronen said “that type of maligning going on of a public official in San Francisco is disgusting,”
Adachi was a frequent critic of the San Francisco Police Department and many considered the leak of the report retaliation.
The Public Defender’s office said someone offered to sell the police report to the media just hours after his death for $2,500.
The SFPD says it is investigating the matter and called it a priority. They also offered an apology.
“On behalf of Chief Scott and the police department, I apologize,” offered SFPD commander Greg McEachern. “We apologize to the Adachi family for that report being released.”

It is so blatantly cruel and childish of the police department. But what else would we expect of an insular macho organization filled will wonton power and careless machismo.
