Kim Kardashian has gotten the message and taken action.
She’s announced that she will drop the name Kimono as the name for her new shapewear line.
The branding infuriated members of the Japanese community which sees the Kimono as a traditional garment worn at festivals and special occasions. It’s certainly something they don’t want equated to underwear.
The decision is a sudden reversal from her push back early in the controversy during which she rationalized the name as a nod to the Kimono’s “beauty and detail that goes into the garment.”
The internet responded by accusing Kardashian of cultural appropriation.
Reaction to Kardashian’s flip flop was mixed.
