Rep Ted Lieu (D-CA) called Donald Trump a “racist ass” after the president told four women of color ” go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”
The comment on Twitter reminded many of the racist comments so many immigrants have heard- “go back where you came from.”
Trump’s remarks were directed at the four progressive members of Congress, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) , and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) . Three of them were born in America. Omar is a refugee from Somalia who came to the United States 20 years ago and is a naturalized citizen.
Speaking on MSNBC, Lieu called the President’s comments “a new low for him.”
“I never thought I’d see the day when a president was telling immigrants to go back to where we came from. Donald Trump is demonstrating he’s a racist ass. He’s not uniting us. I can’t wait until he leaves the office of the presidency,” Lieu said.
Lieu also made similar comments on Twitter.
