A suspect is under arrest in the killing of Harris County Sheriff’s deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal near Houston, reports ABC 13.
Authorities say dash cam video shows 47-year-old Robert Solis getting out of his car and shooting Dhaliwal in the back as he returned to his patrol car after a traffic stop.
Deputies found Solis nearby at a local business.
“A deputy observed that he looked a little nervous and put him in custody, and that did turn out to be our shooter,” Major Mike Lee said.
According to the NY Post, Dhaliwal, 42, became the first Sikh deputy in the department when he joined 10 years ago.
“With our heavy hearts we regret to inform our community that one of members and Harris County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Sandeep Dhaliwal was shot and killed while performing his duty. Please keep him and his family in your prayers,” the Sikh Officers Association wrote in a Facebook post.
