Nearly 100 students, parents and community leaders rallied in support of a Muslim student who said she was assaulted and harassed on an Elk Grove campus outside of Sacramento, reports the Sacramento Bee.
CBS13 reports the 17-year-old alleges a masked person followed her into the bathroom then verbally assaulted her and dumped a bucket of water on her. She escaped uninjured, but says she was traumatized.
“I was in shock at that time, and I was in tears, and so overwhelmed with what happened,” Sabah Elias said to the Bee. “I felt humiliated.”
The Council of Islamic Relations met with school staff along with parents about the incident. Police are investigating and at this time, it is not known if her assailant is a student.
The school sent a letter to parents pledging to work with the student body to find a “solution to the grander problem our community is facing- racial and social intolerance.”
