13-year-old held in fatal stabbing of Barnard College student-it’s a headline that stunned most who read it. Now the New York Post reports there’s fear the same group of teens involved in the murder of Tessa Majors also held 20-year-old Yao Yu at knifepoint.
Yu reported to police he was robbed just four days after coming to the U.S. and three months before the murder of the first year college student.
“They asked me where I was from and if I had any money. At first, I didn’t think they were threatening me, so I told them I didn’t have any money. Then, they showed me an open knife, so I gave them my wallet and they took my money,” Yu told The Post Friday.
The incident happened near the same Harlem Park where Majors was murdered. There have been at least 20 robberies there in the last year, 21 grand larcenies, 10 misdemeanor assaults, two sex crimes and one felony assault in and on the outskirts of the park, according to the Post.
” When I heard about the girl who was killed, I thought it was the same group of teenagers, and I was scared,” he said.
Yu says police told him teenagers had also been involved in similar incidents, but they were powerless to do anything about it because of their age.
