Senator Bernie Sanders leads among Asian Americans in the two state’s with the biggest amount of delegates on Super Tuesday (March 3), reports the political news site, fivethirtyeight.
In California and its 495 delegates, Sanders leads in three out of four polls conducted since February 6. The Point Blank Political poll has him at 29% to 19% over Mike Bloomberg, with Senator Elizabeth Warren polling third with 9%.
Change Research has Sanders with 40% support, followed by Warren with 17% and Biden with 14%.
Warren is second to Sanders in the Capitol Weekly poll 22% to 28%.
Bloomberg comes out ahead of Sanders in the SurveyUSA poll by 28% to 19%.
A fact sheet compiled by APIA Vote found Chinese (1,816,350) Filipino (1,653,167), Indian (879,309), Vietnamese (777,718), Korean (555,658), and Japanese (474,566) are the largest AAPI groups in California. The percentage of AAPI voters increased by 25 percent from 2012 to 2018.
There are more than 4 million eligible Asian American voters in the Golden State. AAPI’s make up 17 percent of the electorate.
The counties with the largest population of Asian American who are voting age are Los Angeles County (939,000), Santa Clara County (377,850) and Orange County (408,375).
Six percent or 312,239 Asian American and Pacific Islander voters in California lack health insurance.
11 percent or 593,664 Asian Americans in California live in poverty.
14 percent or 20,709 Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander voters live in poverty.
46 percent of AAPI voters in California say they speak English less than “very well.” Any voter who needs language assistance can call the National Asian American Voter Hotline at 1-888-API-VOTE (1-888-274-8683).
There are 228 delegates up for grabs in Texas and Sanders edges out Bloomberg in the Public Policy Polling Survey, 32% to 29%.
In Texas, according to APIA Vote, the largest Asian subgroups are Indian (474,699), Vietnamese (295,255), Chinese (254,379), Filipino (204,192), Korean (106,878), Pakistani (71,757).
The percentage of AAPI voters increased 46% in the state between 2012 and 2018.
The counties with the biggest populations of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders of voting age are Harris County with 171,745 API voters, Dallas County with 74,375 API voters and Ft Bend County with 75, 815.
About 154,863 Asian Americans in Texas (12%) lack health insurance.
About 135,831 Asian Americans in Texas (11%) live in poverty.
About 3,722 Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders (16%) live in poverty in Texas.
