The Congressional Gold Medal will be formally presented to Chinese American veterans on April 29 in Washington, DC, the Chinese American World War II Veterans Recognition Project announced.
Three separate events will be held that day. The medal will be formally unveiled to a select group of living veterans accompanied by two relatives, major donors and those selected by lottery. All those attending must be invited by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Leaders from both houses of Congress will give congratulatory remarks. The event will be held at 11 am at Emancipation Hall, the main hall at the Congressional Visitors Center.
A second event opened to all will be held at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Washington, DC at 3 pm that day. Individual veterans or their surviving family representatives will have the opportunity to receive their medals in what’s described as a “dignified military protocol ceremony.” All recipients must have been registered and received confirmation. This ceremony will include local residents from Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and DC. Those unable to attend the DC ceremony will have the opportunity to receive their medals at regional events to be announced later.
A gala black tie dinner is scheduled that evening at 6pm also at the hotel.
Registration is required for the gala dinner and individual medal celebration. An invitation is required from Rep Pelosi to attend the medal unveiling.
