Chinatown businesses hurt by coronavirus seek help. Loyal patrons respond

The Chinese Staff and Worker’s Association is calling for government relief in light of the huge decline in business due to the coronavirus outbreak.

NY1 reports that they are asking for a fund for unemployed workers.

“We (are) really concerned because we don’t have money to support our life. Also safety issues, we really worry about the virus,” said John Chen.

Chinatowns in the San Francisco Bay Area also report a huge decline in business.

AsAmNews staff writer Shirley Ng asked readers to post pictures of themselves patronizing Chinatown restaurants in an effort to increase business.

Many of you responded.

Audrey Leong posted a photo of a Chinatown restaurant in New York bustling with business.

Others showed off themselves enjoying their favorite Chinese delicacies in local eateries.

Still another enticed us with a photo of dim sum in Seattle’s International district while another showed off some vegetables purchased at a Chinatown grocery store.

You can still support businesses and practice social distancing by sitting on tables and chairs away from others.

Send us your photos via Facebook here and keep the conversation going.
