As the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus spike in the United States, so do the incidents of hate against Asian Americans.
The New York Post reports three teen girls have been arrested in an attack of an Asian woman on a city bus in the Bronx.
One of them allegedly yelled “You caused coronavirus b*tch! “
Police say another hit the 51-year old woman in the head with an umbrella. The victim rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital where she received stitches on her head.
The girls face hate crime assault and aggravated harassment charges.
Jenny of the Chinese Culture Center in San Francisco received a hateful email which she shared with Dion Lim of ABC7 News.
“You Chinese caused this Chinese epidemic. You are filthy, filthy people,” the message read.
Another who declined to go on camera said a group of teens yelled “‘corona’ at us. Then an Asian family of four walks pass the same group and got yelled with ‘here comes the corona squad.'”
A hate crime reporting site set up by the Asian Pacific Planning and Policy Council (A3PCON), Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA) and San Francisco State Asian American Studies Department has documented 750 reports of hate against Asian Americans as of Friday. You can report hate crimes to Stop AAPI Hate.
