Coronavirus response: Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai donates 2,000 ventilators to New York

Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai is receiving accolades for making the donation of 2,000 badly needed ventilators to New York to treat critically ill patients with coronavirus.

New York has been the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States and the state has made an urgent plea for more ventilators.

According to the New York Post, the donation actually was a lot bigger than first thought. The state received twice as many ventilators than expected, 2000, along with 2.6 million surgical masks and 170,000 goggles. The state estimated the value of the donation at $7 million.

“We kept hearing cries for [personal protective equipment] from our community and wanted to help,” Joe’s wife Clara told CNN. She also pledged to “help the most underserved institutions,” including Elmhurst Hospital, Jacobi Medical Center and Lincoln Medical Center.

MSN also reports that Tsai continues to provide full pay and benefits to team employees and workers at the Barclay Center since the NBA suspended play three weeks ago.
