Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) called for Chinese students to be banned from studying science at U.S. universities.
Cotton appeared on Fox News Sunday Morning Futures program with Maria Bartiromo.
Newsweek reporter Cotton said these students return to China to “compete for our jobs” and steal U.S. ideas. He framed the ban as punishment and accused China of underreporting the number of cases of coronavirus in their country by 40 times.
“So I have little doubt that the Chinese intelligence services are actively trying to steal America’s intellectual property as it relates to the virus that they unleashed on the world, because, of course, they want to be the country that claims credit for finding those drugs or finding a vaccine, and then use it as leverage against the rest of the world,” Cotton said, reported the New York Daily News.
Cotton also continues to spread the disproved claim that the coronavirus spread in a Chinese lab.
