A video has come to light of a man wearing a face mask pummeling a passenger on a subway train allegedly due to the coronavirus, reports the New York Daily News.
Earlier versions of the article indicated the victim was Asian, but later versions have removed the victim’s race.
The video was first posted by Eugene718 on Instagram seven days ago, but only today became widely distributed.
According to the original article, a witness who took the video said the man seen carrying out the attack blamed the other passenger for COVID-19.
“The dude was talking about the Asian guy bringing corona over here so we all gotta wear masks — and all of a sudden punches are flying,” the witness, who wanted to remain anonymous told the paper.
That quote has been removed from later versions of the article. AsAmNews has reached out to the reporter to get an explanation of why the article has been changed significantly.
Passengers onboard the crowded train did nothing to stop it. Police said they received no reports about the incident.
The paper said the victim appeared to escape relatively unharmed and that the suspect simply walked away onto another car.
