Actor Jason Wong was shopping at a neighborhood store in London when a stranger came up to him and asked if he was Chinese.
Stunned by the question in this time of heightened xenophobia, Wong who currently appears in two Amazon original series, White Dragon and The Gentlemen, whipped out his cell phone and began recording.
“This man came up to me and asked if I was Chinese and then came up to me and said he was scared that I was Chinese,” Wong said off camera as he trained his camera on the man who originally made the comment.
“No, no, I’m not scared,” replied the man.
“Yes, you did,” Wong interrupted. “You came up to me and said if I was Chinese. Then you asked me where I was from because the world is very scared right now.”
“People are,” the unidentified elderly man reaffirmed from behind his facemask.
“It’s not your race. It’s where corona comes from,” he continued. “Look at the world. The state of it. What’s happening.”
“So you decided to racially discriminate against me…you walked away from me thinking that I had it.
“Absolutely disgusting behavior. You should be ashamed of yourself,” Wong said as the man continued to deny he implied anything about Wong.
The man walked out with his groceries accusing Wong of having an imperial complex.

RE: Asian actor confronts discriminatory comment in neighborhood store: What a shame. We are using recordings to protect ourselves these days. Shame on bigotry
RE: Asian actor confronts discriminatory comment in neighborhood store: In this age where everyone has a video recorder in their pocket and every video can be instantly uploaded onto the world wide internet, stupid a-holes like this guy can’t seem to bite their tongues and keep their comments to themselves.
