Dontae Wilburn is scheduled to appear in court on May 29 in the hit and run and vehicular manslaughter death of karate instructor Rodney Hu of Stockton, CA, reports KTXL Fox40. The suspect is accused of a willful premeditated murder.
Bail has been set at $2.5 million.
Police say the two got into an argument inside the Food Source grocery store. The argument spilled into the parking lot.
“The suspect, who was in a vehicle, intentionally drove over the victim and then left the parking lot,” explained Stockton Police Officer Joe Silva to Fox 40. “What happened yesterday in that parking lot is just heartbreaking.”
Family and friends left flowers outside the Goju Karate facility which Hu ran for 20 years, according to ABC10.
My son’s real shy and Rodney seemed to pull out his- he overcame his shyness,” said Anthony Asia, the father of one of Hu’s students, told ABC10.
“He was an incredible martial artist. He understood the movements, the katas, how to generate power,” said Anthony Olson, another student.
