Police chief steps down after comments about Asian Americans

The police chief in Fanwood, New Jersey stepped down after audio surfaced of him making allegedly racist comments about the states Attorney General who is Sikh American and sexist comments about a former acting county prosecutor Grace Park, reports My Central Jersey.

A news release from Acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo said Richard Trigo resigned, but his attorney said Trigo retired.

According to ABC7, Trigo is allegedly heard calling Park who is Asian American “pretty hot” and says “she got wide ones.”

Park was the first woman and first Asian American to lead the prosecutor’s office.

Trigo also allegedly said about Attorney General Gurbir Grewal “That…guy with the turban? I wanna pull him like a top.”

“Chief Trigo did not resign or quit,” Joshua McMahon, Trigo’s attorney wrote. “Any assertion to the contrary is categorically and demonstrably false. Chief Trigo had previously begun the process to retire on September 1, 2020 and, until that time, elected to take leave to handle a family-related health issue.”
