NFL players are skeptical about the upcoming season as the league is set to begin in the Fall despite the pandemic.
New England Patriots safety Patrick Chung and cornerback Jonathan Jones tweeted in response to the league’s attempt to apply new measures, which are supposed to keep players safe from the virus during the season.
Jones tweeted, “I don’t know who needs to hear this but you can’t social distance football…”
Chung retweeted and responded, “Not a damn shot. They are trippin.”
Inside linebacker Dont’a Hightower agreed.
The NFL’s new safety measures include: all players and staff must wear a mask at all times (unless the mask interferes with the performance of activities), teams must restrict areas used by staff and players, social distancing at facilities, helmets, shoulder pads, and other equipment must be disinfected after every practice or game, and more.
Brothers and defensive backs Devin and Jason McCourty wrote a guest column for Sports Illustrated’s MMQB, where they question the safety of the upcoming season as the country’s COVID-19 rates aren’t stabilized.
NFL training camps are set to begin on July 28, which is two weeks away. The regular season is currently set for September 10.
