Convicted rapist charged in death of poker pro Suzie Zhao

A man with a lengthy rap sheet has been charged in the death of professional poker player Suzie Zhao in Oakland County near Detroit.

Press and Guide reports Jeffrey Morris is a convicted rapist and homeless transient. However, its not known what connection he had with Zhao. The cause of her death is pending a toxicology report. Morris who has a long history of violent crimes is being held without bail.

According to the New York Post, the two met at a motel the day before Zhao’s burned body was discovered. She had stayed at the same hotel several times in the month before her death.

“This is not the end of the investigation into Susie’s death, but the beginning of the pursuit of justice for her and her family,” White Lake Township police Lt. Christopher Hild said at a news conference, according to the Post.

Police arrested Morris Friday after finding the suspect’s vehicle. Zhao known in poker circles as Susie Q earned a quarter of a million dollars in poker winnings since 2009. She had been living in Los Angeles, but recently moved to Michigan to be with her mom and deal with personal issues.

  1. Sounds like he raped her and then burned her to destroy evidence of such. But why was she texting with such a vagrant?
