An Asian American was harassed with racist remarks after refusing to have lunch with a man.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at a restaurant called El Taurino in Koreatown, Los Angeles. A Korean woman, who identifies herself as HD Lee on social media, posted a video of the harassment she experienced on Instagram.
Lee was waiting in line to order food when a man handed her his card and asked to have lunch with her. Lee declined and told the man, who identified himself as Frederick Douglas Smith, that she was married.
She says Smith then snatched his card back and began screaming “racial slurs” and “degrading words” at her. In the video, Smith can be heard calling Lee an “Asian c*nt.”
“I am appalled that someone would tell me to “Go back to Asia” after being born and raised in the US,” Lee wrote in her post.
Lee can be heard crying in the video as she tells Smith he’s scaring her.
Smith continued to yell at Lee asking her to stop filming him. He claimed he was a contributor to the Obama administration.
In her post, Lee expressed her disappointment that the LAPD said there was nothing they could do about the situation.
“This is 2020 and we’re ALL fighting for equal rights,” Lee said.
