Vancouver police say they are investigating an incident many Asians suspect is racially motivated, reports Global News.
A woman is seen on a security camera approaching from behind and then, without apparent provocation, shoves a 61-year old great aunt into a car.
The woman continued to walk up the street as if nothing had happened, only to look back as she walked out of view.
“From our understanding it was intentional, because as you can see from the video the sidewalk was quite wide,”Armor Valor Corrales, a family member said to Hopclear. “She’s shaken up.”
The incident happened as the Filipina woman loaded her groceries into her car.
Corrales identifies the victim as his great aunt, MaryLou, who is now so scared, she declined to talk to the media and is afraid to go back to the supermarket alone.
The family reported the incident to the police, but has no interest in pressing charges, according to Global News.
“I want people to realize that we are not the virus, Asians are not the virus,” Corrales said.
Vancouver Police say they’ve seen a 600 percent spike in anti=Asian incidents.
