Karen to Asian man: “You have slanted eyes.”

An argument over the chalk art in Los Angeles turned into a racial confrontation with an elderly woman making a disparaging remark about “slanted eyes.”

An elderly woman confronted a man in his garage asking him to tell his children not to mark up the sidewalk with chalk art.

“You son of a b*tch,” the woman can be heard on video saying as her husband tugs at her arm trying to defuse the situation.

“Marilyn, come on,” the husband said.

“You ought to tell your kids to stop,” Marilyn said as she asked for his wife Jenine specifically. “Where’s your wife? She’s a nice person.

“Tell your kids to stop it or I’m going to…”

“Do what?” 小黃 asks. “Sir, take your wife home. I’m serious.”

“Get your hand off my car please.”

“Get your hand off my car please.”

At that woman the woman walks toward 小黃 while demonstrably pressing her hand against the car repeatedly.

“I don’t think you live here, because you have slanted eyes.”

“Slanted eyes? Wow that’s racist. Woww, Slanted eyes,” 小黃 said.

“Well when Jenine comes home tell her I’d like to talk to her.”

“Wow, slanted eyes. Keep going.”

I’m not making excuses for Marilyn, but she genuinely seems confused and shows sign of dementia. First she tells 小黃 his wife Jenine and her kids are nice. Next she asks him if he lives here.

My mom and dad both suffered from Alzheimer’s and they both did things that they would not have done when they were healthy. My mom once told her home care assistant that she’s “fat and ugly.”

My late father hit his nurses while in a hospital bed. These are both characteristic behaviors of dementia that have been documented by science.

“You have nice kids and you have a nice wife,” Marilyn told 小黃

“Well apparently they’re not nice when they’re coloring chalk. What’s bothering you about this?”

“It looks like sh*t,”

“No one has a problem with it except you? You’ve had a problem with me since I’ moved in here.”

“No, we saw a guy that didn’t have slanted eyes before you,” Marilyn said.

“Slanted eyes, here we go again,” 小黃 said

“Please take your wife home sir.”

“Now leave this guy alone,” pleads her husband.

“Last chance before I pepper spray her,” 小黃 warns.

She kicks a fan on the floor, knocking it down.

“That’s it,” 小黃 said.

At that point, the video stops.

小黃 said on Facebook at one point he “got my garage knife and activated the blade.”

That’s inexcusable. This woman was not a physical threat to her. He had every right to be upset, but that doesn’t include pulling out a knife.

Hopefully this woman can get the care she needs and 小黃 and his family can enjoy their neighborhood in peace.
