San Diego outfielder Tommy Pham is recovering from stab wounds suffered during a confrontation outside a strip club, reports the San Diego Union Tribune.
The incident happened Sunday night outside Pacers Showgirl International.
Two people who spoke to Pham say he left the club and found an argument happening next to his car. Someone stabbed him after he asked the group to get away from his vehicle.
Authorities say Pham received stitches for the wound and the injuries are not life threatening.
Yahoo Sports reports the Padres describe Pham as in good condition and that they would not have any further comment at this time. The team expects him to make a full recovery. The Padres were recently knocked out of the playoffs by the Dodgers.
Pham released a statement through the team.
“While it was a very traumatic and eye-opening experience for me, I’m on the road to recovery and I know I’ll be back to my offseason training routine in no time.”
He went on to thank the medical team at UC San Diego Health and the police for their investigation.
