The family of University of Washington anthropology professor Sam Dubal says the search has ended for him after 15 days, reports India West.
Dubal went missing after going on a 17 mile hike on Mt. Ranier in Washington.
National Park rangers organized an intensive rescue mission, but say with the weather turning increasingly cold, the odds of him being found alive are slim.
As AsAmNews previously reported, the family pleaded with rangers not to call off the search last week. His sister Dena is now thanking rangers for their efforts.
His other sister Veena thanked family and friends for their support.
The family described the professor as an experienced hiker and had held out hope that he had found a way to survive.
Dubal is a Stanford graduate who attended medical school at Harvard and received his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley.
He published a book published a book, Against Humanity: Lessons from the Lord’s Resistance Army, in 2018.
