A Republican member of the Upper Township Committee in Cape May County, New Jersey wants his job back after posting vulgar images of Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris on social media, reports HuffPost.
Hobard “Hobie” Young drew backlash after posting digitally manipulated images of Harris in sexually suggestive positions on his Facebook. His posts were immediately met with outrage and disgust. Young has since deleted the posts and his Facebook account.
Young later announced his resignation days later on Facebook, stating that he made an “error in judgement.”
“After talking to my loved ones it is best that I step down due to all the turmoil over a meme I posted,” he said. “Those that know me know that this was not intended to offend others in anyway. Just poor judgement politically on my part.”
However, Young appeared to have changed his mind after showing up to a virtual township committee meeting Monday night, claiming that he never officially resigned, according to The Grio.
“I did not send in a signed letter stating my resignation. I sent an email to Barb and told her that I was going to resign,” he said, referring to committee clerk Barbara Young.
“I’ll see you in court,” he added.
Later in the meeting, Young can be heard calling the committee members “lying a**holes,” unaware that he was still unmuted. He quickly apologized for his language.
The committee maintained that Young’s seat is vacant and have continued moving to fill his seat.
Young has not yet clarified why he wants his seat back, nor has he addressed why he shared the offensive images of Kamala Harris.
