Jon M. Chu set to direct Lilo & Stitch live-action film

Crazy Rich Asians and In The Heights director Jon M. Chu is set to expand the Lilo & Stitch universe with a new live-action film from Disney.

According to multiple reports, Disney has tapped the director to work on the new film, however a search for a writer is still in the works.

From Deadline:

Mike Van Waes wrote the current draft for the project, though a search is under way for a new writer to give that draft a polish. Unknown at this time whether the film will be theatrical or on Disney Plus.

With the pandemic shaping how studios release their films, there hasn’t been a decision on whether or not the movie will be released in theaters or on the studio’s streaming service, Disney Plus:

From The Hollywood Reporter:

Disney has yet to announce if the movie will release in theaters or on Disney Plus, the studio’s subscription streaming service.

No word yet on a release date from Disney or from Chu (who has not mentioned anything about the film on his social media accounts as of the writing of this article).
