George Takei joined a host of celebrities including Ken Jeong and Steph Curry to urge Americans to get covered and stay healthy.
“Now more than ever, make being healthy a priority. Please wear a mask to stay safe from COVID-19, and get health insurance to stay healthy,” said Takei in a video message on social media. “Learn how you or someone you know can get financial help at GetCovered2021.org.”
The actors and athletes are taking part in a campaign to urge people to stay home, wear a mask, support health care heroes and help 16 million uninsured Americans sign up for a quality health insurance plan to fight the ongoing pandemic.
The list of stars include AJ Andrews, Odell Beckham Jr., Beth Behrs, Tanner Buchanan, Caron Butler, Shilique Calhoun, Charlie Carver, Max Carver, America Ferrera, Freddy Galvis, Adrian Gonzalez, Mark Hamill, Ken Jeong, Steve Kerr, Tyler Lockett, George Lopez, Danielle Macdonald, Angel McCoughtry, Bill Pullman, CC Sabathia, Sarah Silverman, Bradley Whitford and James Wilks.
The deadline for open enrollment in many state-based health insurance programs is tomorrow. However, the campaign will continue into the New Year as many states including California have extended deadlines and medicaid programs are open year-round for enrollment.
The group wants people to know that there is help out there for folks who cannot afford health insurance.
The initiative is also supported by a bipartisan group of elected officials committed to COVID-safe practices and the link between health and coverage. They are urging anyone in need of financial help for their health needs to go to GetCovered2021.org. You can also search for the hashtag #GetCovered2021.
