Arrests finally made after ‘heartbreaking’ home burglaries

A senior Chinese American couple came home one day to find their life savings stolen. Five months after the incident, two arrests have been made, ABC 7 reports.

SFPD arrested two suspects in connection to a string of San Francisco home invasion burglaries. According to ABC 7, both suspects are 22-year-old men from San Francisco.

According to ABC 7 anchor Dion Lim, the men arrested are Jonathan Pulliam and Dajuan Menifee. Lim, who originally covered the burglary at the senior couple’s home, posted the news on her Facebook and Instagram accounts.

“Remember the senior couple who had their life savings stolen in a home invasion burglary?” Lim said. “Two 22-year old men from San Francisco were arrested. One was on parole while the other was on probation and found in Atlanta.”

“These immigrants from China worked decades to provide for their family,” Lim added.

The Zhong family home was burglarized in July, a previous ABC 7 article reports. The incident occurred in broad daylight and was caught on camera.

Listening to his elderly father talk about the burglary was “heartbreaking,” Simon Zhong said.

His parents immigrated from China nearly 40 years ago, Zhong said, and kept all their earnings in a safe because they didn’t trust banks. A number of sentimental items and jewelry were also stolen, including a wedding set given to them by Zhong’s grandma.

“They took everything from it,” Zhong said, ABC 7 reports.

“My parents actually grew up really poor in China,” Zhong said. “They worked every single day of their life.”

In the months following the incident, the Zhong family set up a GoFundMe page. More than $63,000 was donated.

According to ABC 7, items were recovered from both of the suspects arrested, but whether any of those items belong to the Zhong family is yet to be confirmed.
