Rep Michelle Steel (R-CA) tested positive for COVID-19 this week just days after taking the oath of office, reported the Los Angeles Times.
Steel Sunday became of of the first Korean American women to become a member of Congress. The other two, also sworn in Sunday, are Young Kim (R-CA) and Marilyn Strickland (D-WA).
“This morning I learned I had been in contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19,” she said in a prepared statement sent to CBS LA. “I have no symptoms, but out of an abundance of caution received a test through the Office of the Attending Physician this afternoon and tested positive. At the advice of the Attending Physician, and to protect the health of my colleagues, I will be quarantining.”
According to the Times, the Republican has been critical of the government mandates restricting businesses and the public as a precaution against the coronavirus. She joins President Trump and many other members of the White House who have been seen breaking safety protocols and also tested positive.
