Louis Vuitton has met its match in tennis star Naomi Osaka.
The luxury French brand announced Osaka as its latest ambassador Monday, CNN reports. The three-time Grand Slam winner is set to appear in Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2021 campaign.
Osaka has made her mark in both the tennis and fashion worlds. According to Vogue, Osaka regularly pays homage to her Haitian and Japanese roots via fashion, favoring bold colors and prints.
“Aside from tennis, my most treasured passion is fashion, and there is no brand more iconic than Louis Vuitton,” Osaka said. “To become a global brand ambassador is truly a dream come true for me.”
Osaka called the announcement a ‘full circle moment’ on Twitter, discussing her tradition of purchasing a Louis Vuitton bag every year for her mother’s birthday.
Osaka also garnered widespread attention last summer for using fashion as a form of activism, CNN reports. In each of her matches in the 2020 U.S. Open, Osaka wore a face mask “displaying the name of a different victim of alleged police or racist violence in the US.”
Louis Vuitton toted Osaka as ‘perfectly incarnating the Louis Vuitton woman” via Twitter.
