A family attorney is speaking out about the death of a 9-year-old boy in San Francisco killed by his father in a murder suicide, reports KRON-TV.
Lorie Nachlis blames the tragedy on a bitter dispute between the mother, Leslie Hu, and her ex-husband, Stephen O’Loughlin stemming from a divorce 5 years ago.
Nachlis says the boy’s father suffered from untreated mental illness that culminated in two people dying.
Court records obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle says Stephen O’Loughlin strongly disagreed with the mother’s desire for Pierce to be vaccinated. A trial had been scheduled on the matter for March, but the father agreed to allow the boy to be vaccinated the day before he died.
However, Nachlis says the situation is more complicated than that.
“Pierce wasn’t killed because of a disagreement over a stuffy nose and he wasn’t killed over a disagreement regarding vaccinations. He was killed for more complex reasons,” Nachlis said at a news conference.
“He punished Leslie with the ultimate act of violence, killing her child, and she will suffer as I believe was intended for the rest of her life,” Nachlis said.
The boy attended a Catholic school, Convent & Stuart Hall in San Francisco.
“We are devastated by these events and we are praying for this family, but we cannot comment on any of the details,” the school said in a statement.
