Chen wins 5th straight Championship. Zhou 2nd

Nathan Chen won his fifth straight US Men’s Figure Skating title in Las Vegas, landing four quadruple jumps, reports NBC Sports.

He’s the second man to win five straight titles after two time Olympic champion Dick Button who won seven straight from 1946 to 1952.

“It’s incredible. Something I’ll truly cherish,” Chen said about approaching Button’s incredible 7 championship streak.

Despite the victory, he found fault in his own program and said there would be room to improve.

“I was a little timid today. Honestly that’s on me,’ Chen said Sunday, according to The Guardian. ‘I feel like I didn’t really tackle my elements. I was focusing on conserving energy.”

“The future will come. I’m just happy in the moment,” he said to NBC.

Chen totaled 322.28 points, more than 30 points more than second place finisher Vincent Zhou.

“I kind of had a moment of telling myself check yourself before you wreck yourself, but then I checked myself for too long,” Zhou said, according to NBC.

He landed two quads, but fell on the Lutz. “I’m not happy with myself for throwing away my first 300-point opportunity,” he said.
