Velma Dinkley, a member of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang, is getting her own animated series. Mindy Kaling will voice Velma in the Scooby-Doo spin-off “Velma,” EW reports.
On Wednesday, HBO Max announced that Kaling would executive produce the series and voice Velma. In a statement the production company confirmed that series would be an adult animated comedy series.
“Velma is an adult animated comedy series telling the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang,” the statement said. “An original and humorous spin that unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers.”
Kaling thanked everyone for their support on Twitter by using one of Velmas famous catchphrases, “Jinkies!”
Kaling also cleverly responded to a Twitter user who was less the thrilled with the announcement, according to Buzzfeed News. The user responded to a tweet announcing Kaling as Velma with a GIF of Michael Scott from “The Office” shouting, “No!”
Kaling, who was a writer on “The Office” told the user she “wrote the episode of The Office this gif is from.”
