San Jose, Calif Police are investigating the sexual assault of an Asian woman Wednesday morning in a tunnel at a Caltrain Station as a possible hate crime, reports the Mercury News
The incident is being described as brief and police made an arrest a short time later, according to Caltrain spokesperson Tasha Bartholomew.
ABC7’s Dion Lim reports that police believe the suspect made statements “consistent with hate motivation of Asians.”
“It’s scary, we don’t want this to happen. Very fortunate the victim was not injured physically,” said Caltrain and SamTrans deputy director Victoria O’Brien to Fox2 News.

The incident occurred at 6:30 this morning in a pedestrian tunnel connected to the Diridon Caltrain Station in San Jose.
Passengers must go through the tunnel area to board the trains. The hub also serves Amtrak, Capitol Corridor and Valley Transit Authority buses, she said.
