Sakura Kokumai was training at Grijalva Park in Orange County for the summer Olympic games . A man approached her and began to berate her in an incident she caught on her phone camera.
“There was no racial slurs at the beginning,” Ms. Kokumai said in an ABC7 report, “but as he got into his car he would yell out ‘Chinese’ and ‘Sashimi’ and then I was like OK there it is.”
Sakura Kokumai is a team USA Karate Olympian. She will be representing the U.S in the Tokyo Olympic Games this summer. She is the first American to qualify for Olympics Karate.
Ms. Kokumai said the man harassed her for around twenty minutes. Ms. Kokumai said she was calm because she knew she could fight back, according to MSN.
